"Dino , Dino Burning Bright ! In the forests of the Night !" Apologies to Blake

Synopsis :
Living , lasing cells have been created . The process is based on evolutionary results .

Discussion :
See

I could not believe my eyes when I read the article in Newscientist late on 5 Jul 2011 .
My estimate of the time to find a suitable laser gain medium was about 20 years .

What they did :
(Gather and Yun of Harvard)
They created a gene modified cell that expressed DNA from a jellyfish that encodes for an enhanced Green Fluorescent Protein (GLP) .
This was the laser gain medium .
Pumping and mirroring was done artificially , but the crucial bit was that "certain wavelengths were preferentially amplified " .
The "preferential" is the tricky bit . GLP is folded to give partial Fresnell diffraction and reflection gates . You won't find this on your little desktop computer quickly .

The folded GLP lases naturally m and can presumably be bettered .

Biological mirrors :
Scales , off course . It should be easy to use a Genetic Algorithm to find reflecting scales . Remember to include Fresnell effects .

Biological light pumping .
Even easier . We are doing it already . Many organisms pump light flashes .

This raises all sorts of interesting questions .
1.Are the deep-sea abysses criss-crossed by laser beams ? Has anybody looked?
2 . We can create a laser-animal within about 4 years . Should we ?
Laser-taloned fighting cocks are distinct possibility .
3. Are entanglements in bird's eyes remnants of laser systems ?
4. Are bird's eyes sensitive to carbon monoxide levels ?
How does this relate to human eye-sensitivity to CO ?
See http://andreswhy.blogspot.com "Epicanthic folds and carbon monoxide" 29 Jun 2011
5. What will happen to a planet filled with end-point photonic animals if it suddenly becomes smoke-filled and the oceans turbid ?
6. Are there intra-cellular and inter-cellular laser communications ?
There certainly is a lot if infrared .
7 . How does mitochondria fit in ?

Anti-Lasers
Cao's lab at Yale has made some .
Has any evolved ?
My guess is yes . Look among the deepsea jellyfish .(Where they got GLP in the first place .)
This will have a major impact on new , targeted antibiotics .

Oh no !
Stealth dinosaurs .
Instead of burning bright , they soak up all radiation .
Either store it or discharge in one directional burst the minimize detection .

Neutrino jellyfish .
Nanoscale Fresnell gates will focus neutrinos , forcing a much higher rate of interaction with standard matter . There will be an utilizable energy release . Communication as well .
Think of a distributed life-form , linked by neutrinos with nano-Fresnell gates as synapses . Old . Notice the energy and information systems are the same .

Neutrino sensors :
Can be made about a meter cubic , laced with something like GLP lasers that amplify

Energy generator :
Trickier .
The neutrino energy density is low .So , to get something meaningful we must concentrate and enhance .
To enhance neutrino emission from the sun or a nuclear reactor , we require a neutrino mirror . We can then initiate a stimulated emission of neutrinos . A neutrino laser .

Neutrino mirror :
Entangle neutrinos coming from opposite directions (use neutrino jellyfish nanoscale Fresnell gates.) . The entangled neutrino from earth , arriving at the Sun , is a mirror image . In effect , a neutrino mirror . A neutrino laser can then be effectuated ,
This sounds difficult . Like I thought about living lasers . But most of the hard parts have been done by deep-sea jellyfish .

Beware of Cthulthu !
