Synopsis :
The Philadelphia Experiment (USA 1943) was disinformation (US Navy) designed to divert critical Nazi resources at a critical time . The fine hand of Robert Heinlein can be discerned .
As the Nazi's became desperate , it was resurrected . Some anomalous results were obtained . Theory during and after WWII was insufficient for controlled use .
It was buried because of lack of utility and use of Kammler , a particularly bad Nazi .

He served on the new aircraft carrierUSS Lexington (CV-2) in 1931. During that time, Heinlein worked on radio communications, then in its nascent phase, with the carrier's airplanes. The captain of the warship was Ernest J. King who was later to serve as the Chief of Naval Operations during the Second World War.

Under the aegis of Admiral King , they cooked up the Philadelphia smoke-and-mirrors scam to convince the Nazi's to divert resources into non-existent technology .

This was 1943 . How well it worked is unknown . Not very well , I think .
Hans Kammler at this time was building concentration camps .

The Biter Bit .
As the Nazi regime became more desperate , they started clutching at straws . Small cost , high-payoff projects were supported .

Hans Kammler

was assigned (or , more likely , took over after first anomalous results) .
By 8 Aug 1944 he was head of the V2 projects and by Jan 1945 head of all the Reich's missile projects , by order of Hitler .

He was an engineer intimately familiar with the pulse-systems of V1 .
Any good lie has to have a good measure of truth . And the Philadelphia Scam was (and still is) beyond present controllable systems .

But not uncontrollable-pulse systems .

The Nazi's got some high-energy release results , but could never control it . The US took it over , but could not get any controllable results either . They then buried it to hide the presence of Kammler and the embarassment of not getting results .

A pity .
Apart from a space drive , it also means a line-of-sight near-lightspeed high-mass anti-ballistic missile .
