Synopsis:
Light volcanic pumice fall is more deletrious than a heavy fall .

Discussion :
This is happening now in the Southern Hemisphere due to heavy pumice eruptions in Chile , Eritrea and other places .

The damage :
It is not ash , but pumice . A rock aerosol . The heavy bits fall out soon , but the very light pieces get carried over the whole hemisphere .

It is hygroscopic (lots of micropore structures) and agglutinates . Clogs up your lungs with cement . Which is why they just now grounded aircraft flights out of Southern African Airports (bad weather plus fine pumice ruins lifting surfaces and turbines )
Not good enough for a jet , but good enough for you to breathe .

Long-range power lines
These systems have fine-tuned it to the effect of wind on the cooling of electrical powerlines . (Well known heat = Current ^2 effect) .
This is widely used (a little thing ESKOM neglected to tell you)
A fine layer of pumice cemented by water insulates the powerline against wind-cooling effects . It can thus carry less current (effect is bottlenecked at about 15%) . So , expect power blackouts .

Asthma
Potentially lethal .
It is not known whether light volcanic pumice will trigger asthma attacks . It will definitely worsen existing attacks .
Filter masks are indicated .
(As usual , the medical establishment has done nothing)

Smoking :
This involves inhaling air through a filter . What will kill you first ?
As usual , the establishment (even the tobacco industry) has no idea , has not spent a cent on research .

Bah . Use a mask .

Or light up . There are some studies that indicate that enhanced CO levels has beneficial effects .
Humans have been through volcanic episodes many times , and have genetic baggage that will help .

Agriculture :
Micropores on leaf-structures get clogged up . Expect poor crops .
Especially on leafy things . Wines will get zapped from a volume point , but the vintages will be fantastic .(Vintages always get better because of feeding and choking)

Water Supply :
Systems that use carbon filters will clog up quickly .

Fishing :
This should get better . The element-rich pumice falls on ocean gyres , where they get concentrated and cause an explosion of plankton , feeding the fishes .

Rainfall :
This will increase . There are more nuclei for raindrops to condensate . The extra release of thermal energy will drive steeper gradients in atmospheric systems . Already happening .
This means faster winds , bigger storms , more floods .Not to be confused with Global warming .

Insects :
Expect explosions of insects and birds feeding on them .
But cockroaches and creeping insects will crash . The pumice abrades their abdomen as the try to slither .

Bacteria and Virii :
These are usually bottlenecked by a lack of trace elements . A light pumice fall makes these elements more available . Expect an explosion of these , but there are lots of negative feedback factors here .

Wash all food thoroughly . Pumice clogging up your intestines is a bit of no-no .
Especially if you abuse antiacids .(Your stomach acids are supposed to break up these nasties .)

Neurological effects
From an evolutionary viewpoint , a light pumice fall should make humans more antsy and irritable .There is a sufficient history of exposure to the stimulus , but I do not know the actual pathway .

Inhibition of panic
Panic is pro-survival for individual elements in localized disasters . This happens .

But in more general disasters , co-operation (ie inhibition of panic) is more beneficial
This happens , as well .

But why and how ?

A light volcanic fall seems to trigger an inhibition of panic . (Eg UK Iceland falls)
Nobody seems to have spent any time wondering why , so you will have to make do with my version of why .

Hibernation:
Very small concentrations of H2S (in the order of 20 ppm) (too small for humans to smell , but dogs will notice) trigger very deep energy shutdowns in the mitochondria and cells .This means smaller irritability and aggression .

I hesitate to release this , because it is an obvious subliminal pacifying agent .
But the future we are going into will require more than localized panic responses to survive .

Rather amusing :
The air-conditioning scrubbing out H2S is responsible for most of the panic financial crises .

Every hedge fund operator should have a little Stinky Spray (H2S at about 20 ppm) . Keeps the animals from devouring each other .

What can I say ?
Humans are having too much fun exploring the boundaries of their little environment .
God will provide .

But Earth is God's Reality Show . And it is called " No Survivors"
